Task requirements
Domestic Considerations, RSDs: The post offers a high attendance level and hybrid working days when appropriate, with the opportunity to work upwards of 88 days per year. Working pattern can involve weekdays and weekends during modular and consolidated courses. Army Reserve post, based in Edinburgh with some travel and some overnight duty required.
Position Role: Platoon Commander ATU (Sc).
Responsibilities:
- Perform the duties of a Platoon Commander delivering Army Reserve Basic Training (BT) Common Military Syllabus (CMS).
- Lead Platoon Permanent Staff and conduct all reporting functions within MS windows.
- Key responsibility is to PLAN, LEAD and SUPERVISE Army Reserve Basic Training
- Conduct Duties as Range Conducting Officer (RCO)
- Delivery Fieldcraft and Battle Lessons in a Platoon Context as an Exercise Conducting Officer (ECO)
- Fully conversant and compliant with all aspects of Basic training, either leading or supporting its delivery.
- Create Recruits Report Books and supporting Company Commander on G1/G7 aspects.
- Lead Recruits and inspire individual achievement as per the ARITC code of practice for instructors.
- Undertake any additional tasks as required by the CoC.
- Maintain regular engagement with own cap badge ensuring the individual remains SQEP within CEQ.
- Provide Duty Officer cover over specified periods.
Essential competencies
Range Management Qualification (minimum of K Qualification to act as Range Safety until qualification attained), M Qualification (If not held, must be gained at earliest opportunity in post), DTc(A) (DTTTv2), B Veh Driving Licence, Tactical Qualification or evidence experience leading soldiers on exercise.
Suitable & recommended on last OJAR for Basic Training Environments (Phase 1 training).
Desirable competencies
C or D/D1 Veh Driving Licence recommended and maybe able to be attained when in post.

ATU (Sc) trains the Army's next generation of Army Reserve soldiers. We deliver demanding, realistic but safe basic training that develops the character of our soldiers so that they can embark on their military career with confidence and a will to win. We teach the values and standards of the British Army using inspirational role models and ensure that our soldiers can do the basics brilliantly. Estimated expectation of attendance is 50 days per training year, with attendance to at least 1x Battle camp (15 days) or 1x consolidated course (10 days)

Further Information:
We are a satellite training location who offer reservist the ability to train locally in a modular or consolidated fashion. The unit is small with approximately 34 personnel. With our higher headquarters Soldier Academy (Sldr Ac) based in Pirbright we work with a high degree of autonomy. We welcome and train reserve recruits from all over the UK.
This role will also give you the opportunity to undertake training courses that may not be available to you through your own unit, such as skill at arms, range qualifications, CBRN, BCD and Map Reading.
This is a reservist role that can offer up upwards of 88 days per year, working pattern can involve weekdays and weekends during modular and consolidated courses including instructor duties and overnight stays.
