Task requirements
Subject to formal establishment, a vacancy will arise for a OF3 to serve as SO2a Reserves at Shrivenham on Home Commitment (HC) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 07 Sep 2025.
Unit Function:
Strategic Command develops, generates, operates, integrates unique and pan-Defence capabilities to maintain operational and strategic advantage.
Position Role:
To maximise Reserve Force engagement opportunities across UKStratCom HQ components.
Responsibilities:
- Co-ordinate Reserve Hub activity, provide Reserves Board assurance and act as the sponsor for posting adverts onto SERVE.
- Engage with sS Reserve stakeholders and specialist Reserve units to develop a mutually beneficial working relationship.
- Support UKStratCom HQ workforce initiatives and projects by providing Reserves SME as required.
- Promote sS Reserve opportunities through the UKStratCom HQ and regional Resettlement processes.
- Promote and encourage value for money opportunities by providing short term sS Reserve workforce solutions in support of UKStratCom HQ components.
- Provide first line SME career management advice to all UKStratCom HQ Reservists.
- Recruit, engage and discharge UKStratCom HQ Reservists.
- Additional tasks as detailed by SO1 Reserves.
Essential competencies
Must be an OF3 of any specialisation.
OF4 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and wear the rank of OF3.
Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

- Security Clearance - SC
- Staff - Grade 2

- FTRS (HC) TaCoS applies.
Employer Comments:
- The post holder will have a Permanent Duty Station of Shrivenham but occasional day travel to Northwood will be required to engage with the UKStratCom HQ customer Group will be required.
- Hybrid working is an option but a presence in the office may be required.
- The post holder will have staff experience and a strong personnel background with experience of reserve TaCoS.
- The post holder will have the ability to deal with multiple and complex issues; high integrity/initiative, with the strength of character to deal efficiently with high volumes of work to tight timeframes.
- The post holder will be skilled in the art of influencing and communicating at all levels.
Other Information:
Regular Service Applicants. Personnel currently serving in the Regular Services should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Profession and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying.
Admin Discharge. Subject to sS Policies candidates may be rejected.
Pension Issues. Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). Additional guidance can also be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/pensions-and-compensation-for-veterans and MMP116 - Re-employment. Of particular note is reference to the ‘Effect of Re-employment’ on Commutation and, for those leaving on a ‘preserved’ pension, the Resettlement Grant.
Transition between TaCoS. Personnel taking this appointment from other TaCoS should consider the impact on any accrued entitlements, such as leave, resettlement etc and should seek specialist guidance where required as certain entitlements are TaCoS specific and may not be retained or transferred on transition between TaCoS.
Flexible Working Arrangements. In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserve personnel can request FW arrangements with their line manager. Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage.
Annual Training / Fitness / Medical / Dental. Subject to sS policies
Annual Salary and Leave. Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published sS Regulations JSP 754. Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760.
Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS TaCoS are eligible to occupy Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at non entitled rates subject to sS policies.
