Subject to formal establishment, Joint Boarding process and sS Policies a vacancy will arise for a OR7 / OR 8 to serve as DCA WO Cyber Support at the defence Academy Shrivenham on FTRS (HC) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 1 July 25.

Unit Function: 

To maximise Defence’s ability to meet the challenges of future operations by bringing science and technology to life through education and training. 

Position Role: 

Oversee the DCA Technical Support Team to coordinate and prioritise technical and IT support within the DCA. 

 

Responsibilities: 

Liaison between DCA staff and contracted technical support team to co-ordinate the delivery of the Cyber Academy Training Environment in support of the course timetable and external requests. 

Liaison with Def Ac safety and security staff, and awareness of relevant Defence Policies to provide effective leadership and guidance in assuring the DCA technical support team delivered services. 

Develop process documentation to support the DCA technical support team key work streams. 

Contribute to DCA projects as required. 

Maintain currency in role, staying up to date with industry trends and best practices in the cyber field. 

Carry out additional staff and management functions, as required to support the DCA. 

Undertake all mandatory training as required for the role within Def Ac. 

Essential competencies

Must be an OR7 / OR8 of any specialisation. OR6 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR will be considered. 

Applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and wear the rank of OR7 / OR8. 

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces. 

A background in networks and / or operating systems 

Teamwork and collaboration - Work collaboratively across the DCA, DefAc and PAG to achieve desired outcomes.    

 Leadership - Set and communicate clear objectives for the DCA technical support team. 

Delivering Results - Manage IT Infrastructure and resources to meet DCA teaching and external event demands.    

Adaptability and Initiative - Respond effectively to changes in the technical environment and DCA teaching and event demands.        

Previous experience of CIDA, or IT Service Management or a willingness to develop in these areas would be desirable. 

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Selection Process

The advert for this role has been advertised previously for 4 weeks and may be withdrawn early if a suitable candidate has been identified.

Domestic Considerations: 

Where DCA needs allow this role may be suitable for some home-based working after an initial onboarding phase.  Please note that the current expectation is to be in office at least 3 days a week.

This position is an ICT management role in a modern purpose-built facility enabling training delivery to a highly motivated and engaged cohort drawn from across the defence community.  The role offers great opportunities to develop your own cyber knowledge and skills through a range of internal and industry accredited courses.  Previous technical experience is highly desirable.   

Other Information: 

Regular Service Applicants.  Personnel currently serving in the Regular Services should be mindful of the current Early Termination Minimum Waiting Time (MWT) for their respective Rank, Profession and ensure this MWT is compatible with the post sponsor’s proposed start date, prior to applying. 

Admin Discharge.  Subject to sS Policies candidates may be rejected. 

Pension Issues.  Personnel who qualify for a service pension should take financial advice from Defence Business Services (DBS) Pensions Department on the effect that undertaking reserve service has on their pension (details can be found on the JPA splash screen). Of particular note is reference to the ‘Effect of Re-employment’ on Commutation and, for those leaving on a ‘preserved’ pension, the Resettlement Grant. 

Transition between TaCoS.  Personnel taking this appointment from other TaCoS should consider the impact on any accrued entitlements, such as leave, resettlement etc and should seek specialist guidance where required as certain entitlements are TaCoS specific and may not be retained or transferred on transition between TaCoS.  

Flexible Working Arrangements.  In accordance with the Flexible Working (FW) Policy, Reserve personnel can request FW arrangements with their line manager.  Any immediate FW requirements should be agreed with the line management at the interview stage. 

Annual Training / Fitness / Medical / Dental. Subject to sS policies  

Annual Salary and Leave.  Pay will be in accordance with the pay scales published sS Regulations JSP 754.  Leave entitlement is detailed in JSP 760. 

Accommodation. Personnel serving on FTRS TaCoS are eligible to occupy Single Living Accommodation (SLA) if available, at non entitled rates subject to sS policies.
