Task requirements

Successful applicants will undertake the full spectrum of roles and responsibilities as a MT SNCO: 

  • To carry out training and familiarisation on task vehicles as necessary up to Class 1 standard. 
  • To carry out GS Driver trade training as required. 
  • To carry out day to day management of vehicle fleet, including servicing and driver maintenance and documentation to ensure maximum task worthy state. 
  • To meet all transport requirements from fleet vehicles to hire transport. 
  • To monitor drivers’ hours in accordance with both military and EU regulations. 
  • To manage the Squadron’s Fuel and Lubricants requirements, including demands, issues, storage, and accounting. 
  • To manage the Squadron’s Driver Licence and Permit register. 
  • Other projects as directed by the OC. 

Opportunities exist for incumbents to undertake additional RSDs in year to support equipment maintenance and VS tasking. 

Applicants may also get the opportunity to further their qualifications and experience in driver training and fleet management. 

Essential competencies

DVR Class 1, VS Class 1, Licence Cat C+E 

Desirable competencies

JAMES, CLARITY, GS Driving Instructor, Licence Cat D, D1,

Additional information

The VS trade plays a vital logistic role; from loading a tank onto a ship and unloading it at its destination, to looking after a large fleet of operational-ready vehicles in any location. All VS soldiers have the opportunity to deploy across the UK and abroad as part of Port Task Groups.
