Task requirements
Subject to formal establishment, a vacancy will arise for an SO3 C-CBRN strategist to work in Warfare Development, Joint Warfare, at Northwood - on either a PTVR, ADC, VERR or VTOD Terms and Conditions of Service (TaCoS).
120 Reserve Service Days (RSDs) over 12 months are available for this role, with an anticipated proposed start date of 1 Oct 24.
Task requirements:
This is a superb opportunity for an OR9-OF2 of any service or trade to gain significant experience within Defence Force Development, focussing on the implementation of the recently endorsed CCBRN Strategy. As a new post, there is scope for the individual to shape this role based on the evolving requirements identified.
The post will sit within a small CCBRN team within the IWC and work collaboratively with SO2 CCBRN, reporting to SO1 Integration. This small team is supported by the wider Integration team which includes JPR and BSM specialists covering similar roles for their respective capabilities.
The role requires the incumbent to work harmoniously in the Joint environment and to liaise successfully with a wide variety of regular, reserve civil servant and Industry contacts. The span of responsibility demands a high calibre individual who will have a significant profile and credibility across the CCBRN community.
Responsibilities:
- Enable the Joint Force to operate effectively, now and in the future in terms of CCBRN.
- Support the IWCs role of executing UKStratCom’s Lead Command responsibilities for CCBRN, providing SME knowledge to shape submissions and discussion.
- Work with SO2 CCBRN to support the IWC in cohering and tracking implementation of the newly endorsed CCBRN Strategic Approach.
- Provide SME advice to support IR25 CCBRN submissions in conjunction with CAP SP, including the FMC led PFT serial.
- Support SO1 Integration with developing AUS / UK / US trilat opportunities for CCBRN under the International Joint Requirements Oversight Council (iJROC) banner.
Unit Role:
The IWC’s mission is to provide focused and responsive support for MOD and NATO Joint Commanders against ‘now’ and ’next’ operational priorities and opportunities. It drives more coherent, informed and efficient optimisation and adaptation of the Whole Force through close engagement with the domain Warfare Centres.

Royal Navy Applicants should follow the RN Application process.
Army Applicants should follow the Army Application process.
Royal Air Force Applicants should follow the RAF Application process.
Additional information
As the IWC is a Regular organisation, which routinely works Mon to Fri, (0900 to 1700) it is essential that the incumbent is able to regularly attend meetings at NWD during the working week.
The incumbent must be able to travel and work at the Northwood site and also when required conduct visits to other TLBs and overnight at locations. There also may be the requirement to travel overseas if mutually agreed.
The IWC offers its personnel superb opportunities for Force Development and travel to broaden professional horizons.
The appointed incumbent is authorised to claim travel and subsistence (T&S) and to have access to service accommodation, for assigned exercises and associated meetings when remote conferencing is not practicable; dependent on agreed committed TaCoS.
For more details on this position, and on working in the IWC, please contact Sqn Ldr Mike Rankine (mike.rankine467@mod.gov.uk).
