Task requirements

Domestic Considerations/RSDs: The post offers a high attendance level and hybrid working days when appropriate, and the successful applicant would be encouraged to work upwards of 48 RSDs per year. Working pattern is two weekends per month and may involve some week day work, especially during consolidated courses. Army Reserve post, advertised and based as sub unit working from the Altcar site in MERSEYSIDE but may require attendance at the Strensall site in NORTH YORKSHIRE, and overnight duty, as required.

Position Definition: The Platoon Commander leads, coaches, mentors, trains and manages their personnel and Basic Training (BT) recruits in admin, welfare and training delivery.

Responsibilities:

  1. Command Pl as per Unit's objectives/ mission. 
  2. Responsible for day to day management of personnel in camp and when deployed. 
  3. Supervise and advise SNCOs and JNCOs in all aspects of professional and personal development. 
  4. Career management of all personnel under their command.
  5. Monitor all aspects of administration and recommend disciplinary, welfare or remedial action to OC
  6. Responsible for health, safety and welfare of all personnel under command.
  7. Oversees/contributes to the timely production of comprehensive and accurate recruit report books and MS duties. 
  8. To supervise and administer exercises, ranges and DCCT; and produce the requisite associated documentation

Essential competencies

Gen |Dvr Lic Cat B |Joint| 

Instructional | Defence Trainer (DTc) |Joint | (or equivalent). Can be gained within an agreed timeline of taking post. 

Must have SJAR recommendations to work in any training establishments in the last 2 years. 

Not suitable for anyone in their last 2 years of service.

ATU (North) trains the Army's next generation of Army Reserve soldiers. We deliver demanding, realistic but safe basic training that develops the character of our soldiers so that they can embark on their military career with confidence and a will to win. We teach the values and standards of the British Army using inspirational role models and ensure that our soldiers can do the basics brilliantly.

To deliver trained and motivated Reserve soldiers to the Field Army and establish a centre of excellence in the North of England.

Further Information:

We are a satellite training location who offer reservist the ability to train locally in a modular or consolidated fashion. The unit is small with approximately 70 personnel. With our HQ in Strensall and 2 training companies based in Strensall (York) and Hightown (Merseyside). We welcome and train reserve recruits from all over the UK.

This role will also give you the opportunity to undertake training courses that may not be available to you through your own unit, such as skill at arms, range qualifications, BCDT and Map Reading.

This is a reservist role that can offer up upwards of 48 days per year, working pattern can involve week days and weekends during modular and consolidated courses.
