Task requirements
Subject to formal establishment, a vacancy will arise for a OF3 to serve as SO2 Plans at Armed Forces and Veterans Services, Defence Business Services on FTRS Limited Commitment Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 01 May 25.
Unit Function:
Support operational effectiveness through delivering reliable, trusted, and efficient administration services to the regular, reservist and veteran communities.
Position Role:
Deliver and coordinate executive support to Armed Forces and Veterans Services (AFVS) in partnership with Deputy Head & COS AFVS to cohere, prioritise, and monitor branch outputs.
Responsibilities:
· Work with the Deputy Head/COS AFVS in the drafting of Defence Business Services (DBS) directed correspondence, including; ABC Submission, Corporate Business Plan, Annual Delivery Plan, Service Catalogue and the evolving sub-portfolio.
· As the military staff officer in the outer office of Hd AFVS, provide military experience in supporting Head/Deputy Head/COS AFVS in the delivery of AFVS outputs (including focal point for workforce resource & planning).
· Support the co-ordination and staffing of correspondence relating to AFVS and the broader DBS community, including
preparation of briefing notes up to and including ministerial level.
· Support the delivery of AFVS briefings, presentations, visits/events and lead for AFVS stakeholder engagement
activity.
· Support the formulation and coordination of the collective AFVS responses to internal and external papers and requests
for information (FOIs, PMQs etc).
· Support & deputise for the COS AFVS.
· Be prepared to support additional DBS level response to operational incidents.
Essential competencies
Must be an OF3 of any specialisation. OF2 applicants with a recommendation for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR may be considered subject to sS policies.
OF4 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and wear the rank of OF3.
Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.

Additional information
The role requires spending up to 35 nights out of bed each year. The appointment is based in Norcross (Blackpool) but will require frequent visits to other DBS/AFVS sites (Gosport, Glasgow, Abbeywood). Remote working is absolutely considered in line with DBS/Civil Service hybrid ways of working policy.

This is a key role in the heart of the business management area of DBS Armed Forces and Veterans Services. It is a generalist post that requires a high calibre individual who can rapidly assimilate detail on the multitude of AFVS outputs. The individual needs to be able to manage a broad portfolio and drive issues through to successful completion. Will be relied upon to apply sound judgement and independent thought to solve issues and be able to communicate effectively through both written staff work and verbal briefings. The incumbent will gain a unique insight into wider Defence People transformation portfolio activities and AFVS’ role in implementing and helping to deliver more innovative and digitised HR solutions to better support the Defence family.
