Job Description

Domestic Considerations.  Incumbent is expected to serve a minimum tenure of three years in post. The primary place of duty is RNAS Yeovilton, Somerset. Regular travel to HQ AAC, Middle Wallop, and all outlying Army Air Corps locations is required in support of role responsibilities.

Position Role: Responsible for managing apprenticeship activity across the Western region, acting as the Trade stream lead for Aviation Groundcrew Specialist. Holds Corps-level responsibility for apprenticeship user handbooks and mentor training resources.

Responsibilities:
1. Trade Stream Lead – Aviation Groundcrew Specialist. Assist in the coordination and delivery of the AAC Apprenticeship Programme with a primary focus on the Aviation Groundcrew Specialist trade stream.
2. Regional Apprenticeship Manager - West. Coordinate and administer apprenticeship activity across designated units. Support the Capbadge Apprenticeship Lead (CAL) and Unit Apprenticeship Officers (UAOs) in managing learners, delivering briefings and inductions, and enabling employer attendance at learner reviews.
3. Learner Case Management. Provide targeted support for learners at risk of non-completion, coordinating with units and training providers to implement intervention strategies.
4. Stakeholder Liaison and Quality Support. Liaise with the Service Provider and Unit Apprenticeship Officers to ensure quality delivery, acting as a conduit for feedback and continuous improvement.
5. Apprentice Mentor Training Coordination. Act as the regional point of contact for coordinating Apprentice Mentor Training. Support the development of the coaching function to enable learner progression and timely completion.
6. End Point Assessment (EPA) Management. Coordinate and book learner EPAs. In the event of an EPA failure, lead remediation activity to support successful completion.
7. Functional Skills Coordination. Coordinate, administer, and book learners onto Functional Skills courses within the region, ensuring timely access to required learning and assessment.
8. Apprenticeship User Handbooks and Mentor Training Resources. Lead on the development, maintenance, and dissemination of AAC Apprenticeship User Handbooks and Mentor Training and resources, ensuring they remain current and aligned with programme needs.
9. AAC Apprenticeship Awards Support. Assist with the planning, coordination, and delivery of the annual AAC Apprenticeship Awards, supporting event preparation and stakeholder engagement.
10. Additional Duties. Undertake additional tasks in support of the Cap Badge Apprenticeship Lead or wider HQ AAC initiatives as directed. When directed, provide cover for CAL during periods of absence, ensuring continuity of programme.

Essential Skills

Post holder must be have a thorough knowledge of AAC trades to enable AAC Apprenticeship Programme delivery.

Post holder will have regular interaction with Basic, Initial Trade and Subsequent Trade Traininig trainees, therefore must have in date DBS.

SNCO ALDP / CLM

Incumbent must have strong interpersonal and briefing skills; essential that they are IT literate and have a good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Defence Trainer Course and /or professional Learning development experience.


Desirable Skills

Advanced Aviation Groundcrew Speciallist.

Army Trainer Mentor and/or Defence Trainer supervisor.

A working knowledge of the Army Apprenticeship Scheme.

Additional information

The AAC Apprenticeship programme currently offers 3 Apprenticeship Standards, with a combined occupancy of circa 350 learners.

Working as part of a small team the post holder will be primarily responsible as the effective 'front of house' of AAC Apprenticeships for the West Region, including the AAC Minor Units, responsible for supporting coordinating learners within the Apprenticeship Programme. To enable this full training will be given.

This role will suit a SNCO who is able to work independently and is passionate about trade and developing soldiers.

Flexible/hybrid working may be available subject to the Commanders agreement.
