Task requirements
Introduction:
Captain applicants are invited to assign to the University of London Officers' Training Corps as Training Officers / Instructors for a 2-3 year period (shorter assignments will be considered in certain circumstances). Lieutenants soon to promote will also be considered (and given acting rank in the interim).
Unit Role:
University of London Officers' Training Corps (ULOTC) is to develop the leadership potential of selected students and Army Reserve potential officers, and to promote the Army’s ethos and career opportunities in order to secure commitment to the Army, first as officers, but also as future leaders in their chosen profession who will champion the Army in society.
Post Role:
Training Officer / OF2 Instructor - an opportunity to train, develop, command a large number of highly enthusiastic Officer Cadets and Junior Officers in a well-resourced, well-staffed, and well-supported environment. Successful applicants will be assigned to a specific training company (as per their preference and needs of the unit), but should be prepared to support other companies during training as and when required.
RSDs:
35 - 60 as standard. Further RSDs/STs are available for certain taskings.
Routine:
Parade Tuesday evening during University term time (1745-2100 approx) - new training year starts Sept/Oct. Approx 7 Green Weekends; a summer Annual Deployment Exercise; as well as various Special to Arm visits and Leadership events. Ample opportunity to lead and/or support additional activity such as AT, Battlefield Tours, development training.
Essential competencies
DTTT / COT - but can be completed in post as in-camp training
Desirable competencies
None specified - a good understanding of the Combat Estimate; the orders process; and Section to Platoon level tactics is valuable.
Selection Process
Regional Assignment Board. Potential applicants are encouraged to apply/express interest soonest regardless of advert 'closing date' as we are able to bring applicants on to unit strength throughout the year.
Additional information
1) Transfers from Group A units: Successful applicants will assign to ULOTC (and fill a ULOTC PID) but remain in their Group A unit cap badge.
2) Rejoiners: Those that have left Regular service within the past 6 years may join the ULOTC directly if supported by their former Career Manager. Applicants are encouraged to liaise with their former Career Manager if known. If not, we can liaise on your behalf. Please note that if direct sponsorship by the ULOTC is not supported by the applicant's former Career Manager, the applicant must instead find a Group A sponsor unit (i.e. you will not be able to assign directly into the ULOTC via the re-joiner process).
